What is PTSD?
PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a disorder that can develop in some people after they experience a trauma. Typically, symptoms appear within three months of the traumatic event, but sometimes symptoms may not appear for months or years. PTSD is often accompanied by depression, substance abuse, or anxiety.
Treatment for PTSD?
PTSD can be a complicated condition and require multifactorial treatment plans. Often, psychotherapy including specialized therapy can be the most important part of PTSD treatment. Medications can play a large role as well in decreasing ongoing symptoms including poor sleep, increased anxiety and low mood.
How can our Practice Help with PTSD?
Following initial evaluation and diagnosis of PTSD, we can discuss the various options of treatment and, if appropriate, begin immediate treatment. Focusing on daily functioning and involving other modalities of treatment when appropriate will be a large part of the overall treatment plan.
